Musical theatre performance requires more than the ability to sing and dance. Great musical theatre actors know how to combine their well-trained voices and dancing ability to create exciting, engaging and believable characters on stage and on screen.

At the New York Film Academy, students engage in intensive voice, dancing and acting instruction with a Broadway faculty and have the opportunity to present their work to live audiences.

MUSICAL THEATRE PROGRAMS & WORKSHOPS

MUSICAL THEATRE CONSERVATORY OVERVIEW

The New York Film Academy's Musical Theatre Program has been designed with the same focus and intensity of our world-renowned Acting for Film Program. Students interested in performing musical theatre will be able to study the various aspects of musical theatre craft to hone and perfect their skills.

The program is designed for individuals with singing and movement abilities who may or may not have prior experience on a
musical theatre stage.

Musical theatre actors must be well-versed in a variety of dance styles, be able to effectively interpret scripts and songs, as well as present themselves professionally in auditions. The following courses allow students to explore the integral skills required for success in this field, to understand professional ethics and to prepare themselves for the rigorous physical and emotional demands of a musical theatre career.

Well, 2011 got off to a rousing start since January has been a crazy month between blizzards and Broadway buzz. With many shows closing and the well-publicized trials and tribulations going on with Julie Taymor's SPIDERMAN, many of our musical theatre students at New York Film Academy's Musical Theatre School have had a first-hand New York City experience of why it is so important to train with the best to be competitive in your chosen field. I am always so proud of our sparkly Broadway veteran faculty who are so amazing at teaching our students about the business from an inside perspective. Imagine being able to attend a musical theater school and have class during the day with someone and then see them in their Broadway show at night!

A special shout out to Kevin Duda, one of our fabulous Performance Lab instructors who is currently in the thick of rehearsals for his third Broadway show, BOOK OF MORMON. This is the new hilarious (and totally irreverent) musical from Trey Parker and Matt Stone, four-time Emmy Award-winning creators of South Park about a pair of mismatched Mormon boys sent on a mission to a place that's about as far from Salt Lake City as you can get. The Book of Mormon is written in collaboration with Robert Lopez, the Tony Award-winning writer of Avenue Q, and co-directed by Mr. Parker and three-time Tony nominee Casey Nicholaw. Congrats, Kevin!

Additionally, we are excited to announce that RYAN JESSE, currently starring on Broadway in JERSEY BOYS as Bob Gaudio will be coming to speak to our NYFA students about being in a hit Broadway show and all that it requires in terms of training, discipline and commitment.

Live who you are. Love what you do.
